Barbara Goldsberry Gwinn

ATHENS- Barbara Goldsberry Gwinn of Athens, Ohio age 88 passed away on May 4, 2025, at the home of her daughter Susan Gwinn in Athens, Ohio.  Barbara was the daughter of Ruth and Frank Goldsberry.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert Gwinn, her brothers James Goldsberry, Dick Goldsberry, Bob Goldsberry, Charles Goldsberry and brother-in-law Gary Miller.  

Barbara is survived by all five of her children: Susan Gwinn, Julia Penwell, Robert “Curt” Gwinn (Vicky) Daniel Gwinn (Susan) and Rebekah Sears (Norman).  

She is survived by her sisters Carol Breese, Nadina Taylor (Loren), Jeannie Miller, Andria Karshner (Phil) and brother-in-law William Cooley. 

She is also survived by her grandchildren Jamie Yates (Donnie), Shannon Gwinn, Tyler Gwinn, Elizabeth Allen, Lauren Allen, Madison Gwinn, Donal Penwell, Dustin Penwell, and Cody Watts.

Barbara was also survived by her special dog Beau.  She was proud of her children, who all college degrees and had successful careers.  In lieu of flowers she wanted contributions to be made to the Athens County Humane Society, P.O. Box 765, Athens, Ohio 45701.  

Barbara was born in Columbus, Ohio and liked to tell the story that she was born in an ambulance.  She was such a beautiful baby that her parents made the journey to California with her to try to get her into the movies.  Barbara graduated from Shade High School in 1954.

Barbara was a member of the New Life Assembly of God.  Barbara was also involved in politics and was an Athens County Democratic Party Central Committee Member for many years.   

The Funeral will be held on Sunday, May 11th at Jagers Funeral Home in Athens at 3:00pm.  Calling hours will occur at the Funeral Home beginning at 1:00pm.  The burial will be at the Zion Cemetery on Zion Road, Shade, Ohio.  Please share a memory, a note of condolence or sign the online register at www.jagersfuneralhome.com.
