Carole Goodman Bouchey (née Carole Covell, née Carole Goodman) passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 18, 2023 at the age of 89 at her residence in Athens, Ohio. Carole was a beloved sister, mother, stepmother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Raised in Philadelphia, PA, her parents, Israel and Reba, preceded her in death. She attended Simon Gratz High School, class of 1952, and subsequently Temple University. As a teenager, she was a ballroom dance instructor at Fred Astaire Dance Studios. In 1955, while vacationing in the Catskills, she met Sheldon Goodman of Cleveland, OH and they eventually married. Living in South Euclid and then Shaker Heights, OH, they had three children, Robert, Donna, and Gary.
Carole was vivacious, intelligent, and active in her communities. In Cleveland she was a member of Park Synagogue, volunteered for Jewish organizations, did community theatre, played tennis, and had many personal friends. She had a zest for life and always found joy in these activities.
After divorce, she married a second time to attorney Calvin Covell, also of Cleveland. At this time, during her professional career, Carole ventured into the realm of entrepreneurship, becoming the owner of an employment agency in Shaker Heights. Her dedication and commitment to her work were admired by colleagues and clients alike.
After her second divorce, she moved back home to the Philadelphia area in 1987, ultimately settling in Mt. Laurel, NJ. Still active, Carole continued to play tennis into her 60s and was always rushing out to some event or commitment. She also volunteered as an usher at local community theaters where she met her third husband, George Bouchey. They married in 2000 and were together until his passing in 2017. She then moved to Athens, OH to be close to her daughter and lived there until her passing November 18.
Carole’s love knew no bounds and she leaves behind a blended family. She is survived by her children, Robert Goodman (Robert Viana) of West Hollywood, CA; Donna Goodman (Scott Kester) of Athens, OH; Gary Goodman (Maria) of Richmond, CA; stepdaughter Michele Covell (Sumit Roy) of Woodside, CA; grandson Patrick Cunningham (Amanda) and great-granddaughters Audrey & Nora Cunningham of Cincinnati, OH; sister, Joyce Segal, of Mt.
