ATHENS — Cecil Oril Gillette Sr. passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at his home. He was 96.
Cecil was born May 29, 1926, in Athens, Ohio, son of Arra and Lucy Gillette. Cecil was retired for 34 years, which he enjoyed every minute. He was a plasterer by trade and retired from the Meigs coal mine. He enjoyed golfing and bowling with family and friends.
He is survived by a son, Cecil Gillette Jr.; daughters Mrs. David (Sis) Wright and Mrs. Allen (Shari) Gillispie; six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and best friend and great-grandson Logan; and a special niece and nephew, Diane and Orland Saylor.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Gillette; brothers Herman Gillette, Delmer Gillette, and Harold Gillette; sisters Mrs. Doris Coffman, Mrs. Lucille Cone, Mrs. Pleasant Wilson; a daughter-in-law, Sheila Gillette; many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
