ATHENS- Corey Reuben Young, age 40 of Athens, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2024 at his home after a two years battle with mucormycosis and osteomyelitis. Born Jan. 24, 1984 in Parkersburg, WV, he was the son of Debby & Hank Cahrier of Albany and the late Gene Young.
A 2002 graduate of Eastern High School, he was employed as a heavy equipment mechanic and electrician. He was a former resident of Struthers, Ohio and returned to the Athens area in 2020. He enjoyed auto mechanics, car collecting, shooting guns, music, and Cadillacs. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving from 2007 to 2014 in Africa and Norway.
Corey is survived by wife of twelve years, Jessica Perry Young; two daughters, Ava Ruth Young and Allison Deborah Young both of Boardman; his mother and step father, Debby & Hank Cahrier of Albany; three brothers, Joseph (Melissa Vankeuren) Bame of Jefferson, NY, David Young of Middleport and Mikel (Sally) Young of Little Hocking; a special aunt, Judy Weber of Tuppers Plains; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rich & Kelly Perry of Athens; and a sister-in-law, Amber (Johnny) McKenzie of Albany.
Funeral service will be conducted Thursday, April 11th at 6:00 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens with Robert Buty and Mark Ervin officiating. Friends may call Thursday 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home. Military Rites will be conducted at the funeral home by K.T. Crossen Post 21 American Legion and VFW Post 9897 Honor Guards.
