THE PLAINS- David N. Wilson, age 89 of The Plains passed away Friday evening, Feb. 23, 2024 after a brief illness at Hickory Creek Rehabilitation Center, The Plains. Born Nov. 21, 1934 in The Plains, he was the son of the late Herbert Wilson and Dorothy Montgomery Wilson.
Beside his parents he is preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Jayjohn; three brothers, Bill, Paul and Jack Wilson.
David is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Ruthie Hillyer Wilson; two sons, David J. (Jane) Wilson and Todd (Faye) Wilson; two daughters, Dorothy Wilson and Rena (Brian) Trappe; a brother Merritt Wilson; two sisters, Marilyn Sparks and Wyona Puckett. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Renee Shimwell and nephews, Benjamin and McCullin; a sister in law, Thelma Hillyer; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren; special friends, Gary & Barb Baldwin; and his pet dog, Ivy.
David worked in the tire mold business for 67 years. His most recent employer being Athens Mold and Machine where he was still working at the time of his death. He was an avid sports fan of the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Browns. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Most importantly, David loved the Lord and was a member of The Plains Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday School teacher and Trustee. He was also instrumental in the start of The Plains Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, Feb. 28th at 1:00 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens with Donald Dunn officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville. Friends may call Wednesday 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Military Rites will be conducted by the Combined Color Guard at the cemetery.
