SHADE- Dewey F. King, 80, of Shade, Ohio passed away Monday morning, December 2, 2024 at his home with his loving wife of 63 years by his side. He was born February 20, 1944 in Athens and raised on the family farm in Shade, Ohio. He was the son of the late Holley Ivan King and Mary Burson King.
He was a 1961 graduate of Shade High School. He was employed for 40 years at Ohio University in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry where he was the Department Machine Shop Manager. As he was described in OU’s announcement of his retirement: “Dewey had the reputation of being able to design and construct any equipment item a faculty member or graduate student could dream up. In most cases, all he needed was a rough sketch on a cocktail napkin to work his magic”. This is a true statement of the talent and dedication he possessed throughout his career.
His interests included over 60 years as an amateur ham radio operator, a member of CWOPS, spending time with family, quiet moments on the front porch swing, gardening and visiting antique and hobby shops with his wife. He spent countless hours in his home workshop where he continued to design and create his own projects.
Dewey is survived by his wife, Martina A. Wines King; his children, Richard King of Pratts Fork, Randy (Janelle) King of Granville and Rodney (Mindy) King of Athens; five grandchildren, Kristy King, Ryan and Jarrett King, Brian (Sara) Pomas and Jamie Brooks; a brother, Lloyd “Duck” (Eva) King; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by three brothers, Robert L. King, Danny King and Claire King: as well as his father in law and mother in law, James and Bernice Wines.
Funeral service will be conducted Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens with burial in Burson Cemetery, Shade. Friends may call Thursday 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Please share a memory, a note of condolence or sign the online register at www.jagersfuneralhome.com.
