Diana Sue Simerly McAlpin

Diana Sue Simerly McAlpin, 65, of Akron, formerly of Glouster, OH passed away December 17, 2023 at her son, Ryan McAlpin’s residence, surrounded by immediate family. Born December 26, 1957, she was the daughter of the late Thelma Gunnoe Simerly and William Simerly. Diana worked in the engineering department of Amcast for many years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking. The love for her family was indescribable. She enjoyed playing backgammon with her late husband Jim, as well as playing phase 10 and other card games with family. Win or lose, it was always a win in her heart and mind just spending time with loved ones. She enjoyed every minute spent with her great grandchildren, whether it be playing with them or just watching them sleep. She looked forward to having cookouts making more priceless memories.

She is survived by her daughter, Shanna McAlpin and sons, Ryan (Chelsey Jones) McAlpin whom she raised, Shaun McAlpin and fiancé Krystal Graham; granddaughters, Cheriko Campbell, Haylee (Zachary) Holdren, Kaylee Campbell and fiancé Justin “Ippy” Shannon; grandson, Austin McAlpin-Dulebohn; ex-(grand)daughter-in-law Cora McAlpin; great grandchildren, Vada, Koen, Jakaylaa, Kobe, Owen, Caydence, Aria, Ashton and Macie; brothers Kennith (Joann) Simerly, Terry (Marcia) Simerly, William “Andy” (Mable) Simerly, Patrick “Shane” (Misty) Simerly; sisters, Geneva McQuade and Paula (Mark Thomas) Simerly; brother-in-law, Robert “Bob” Cinquepalmi; several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life and best friend, James “Jim” McAlpin; beloved son, Shawn Simerly McAlpin; sister, Gannett Cinquepalmi; sister-in-law Misty Wilson; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A funeral service will be held on December 22, 2023 at 1pm at Morrison Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville with Jon Hanning officiating. Interment will be in the Maplewood Cemetery, Glouster. Visitation will take place on Thursday, December 21st from 5-8pm.  A celebration of life will be held at the Jacksonville Eagles following burial. Family welcomes all to attend and bring a covered dish if you wish.
