Ashley

Dog of the Week: Ashley

Ashley came into the shelter with Annie as part of a humane case in September. She was terribly underweight at only 23 pounds and her body was struggling under the weight of severe fleas, a hookworm infection, and ehrlichia, a tick-borne disease. A team of volunteers and fosters got to work patching Ashley up and the results have been extraordinary.

Ashley has doubled her weight, and she is now disease-free. Her coat is incredibly glossy. But most of all, Ashley has had a chance to recover her confidence in a loving foster home. Her foster reports that she is “the most loyal, sweet, affectionate dog we have had to date in foster.” Ashley loves to be praised and prances around in response. She is very kind to her dog and cat siblings and does not show any aggressive or destructive tendencies. She also has learned some basic commands: sit, lay, and shake. She is housebroken and crate-trained and loves being outside so she can say hi to people passing by.

Ashley is an incredible testament to the transformation dogs undergo when they get a loving foster home. Her journey is not yet complete though–we are waiting on just the right family to bring her home for good!
