When Bertha was surrendered to the shelter, she was suffering from a broken heart. She hadn’t been treated kindly, was too thin, and was said to have been left tied up outside. Life since then hasn’t been easy for her – she desperately wants companionship. Bertha comes to life when she gets to play in the yard with Wilson (AKA the Taco Bell Dog) and gives hugs to all the volunteers with big brown eyes you can’t help but fall in love with. We hope Bertha can find another person that will be as loyal to her as she will be to them. Most of all, we never want her to experience the heartbreak of abandonment again. If you can be Bertha’s ride or die, please call the Athens County Dog Shelter at 740-593-5415.
