Dog of the Week: Georgie

GEORGIE, 2-23-24, female terrier/husky mix, ~3-4yo, 50#, FOUND on Center St., New Marshfield.

Here is a story we have heard too many times before– a mama dog comes into the shelter and her puppies are all adopted, yet she has no interest. Georgie birthed and supported 9(!) puppies on her own until they were found and brought into the shelter. Thankfully all 9 have found their forever homes. But after all that hard work, Georgie has been left waiting for over two months in the Athens County Dog Shelter.

Georgie is stunning with her brindled coat and blue eye. Georgie has had positive interactions with other dogs and enjoys sharing walks with them. There is no doubt that Georgie is a mama dog though. If a young dog jumps on her or crosses a line, she quickly puts them in their place and then continues with her stroll. We love her no nonsense demeanor!

But most of the time, Georgie is quiet and bashful, sometimes even appearing withdrawn and sad. Shelter staff have totally fallen for her and let Georgie sit by the front desk where she enjoys relaxing and meeting new visitors. Even when the door is open, Georgie is content with her people and does not try to escape. Can it be Georgie’s turn for love, attention, and commitment yet? We hope she is not overlooked a minute longer.
