Dog of the Week: Peanut

Breed: Peanut has the body and coat of a yellow lab, but the head and ears of a German Shepherd. Genetics are weird!

Fun Fact: Labrador retrievers originated in Northeast Canada and served as helpers for fishermen. Labs are built for the water with webbed toes and a buoyant tail.

Age: Just a year old and Peanut has already spent a quarter of his life waiting in the shelter.

Height: 23 inches

Favorite pastimes: Swimming, swimming, and swimming

Dislikes: Loud, stressful environments

Fitness: Active

Looking for: An active person or family who will take him swimming on occasion.

About Peanut: True to form, you cannot keep Peanut out of the water. He pounces into the doggy pool whenever he gets the chance. Last week, Peanut had the day of his dreams when he visited the Athens pool ahead of the annual dog swim for a photoshoot. Peanut is wicked smart and gives great eye contact with his handler. He is going to be so much fun to train and would be a star at dock diving. Peanut is extremely stressed in the shelter though and has been reactive to some dogs. When Peanut gets out of the loud shelter environment and sees a person, his whole body wags instead of just his tail. We can’t wait for Peanut to lay eyes on his future family. It will be a wonderful moment!

Please call the Athens County Dog Shelter at (740) 593-5415 to meet Peanut.
