River, 12-29-23, female terrier mix, ~6yo, 55#, FOUND on Lake Hope Dr, Nelsonville near the Nelsonville Water Office.
River was a resident of the shelter in 2022 when she came in as a transfer from the Hocking County Shelter after they exceeded capacity. She was adopted by a family that summer, but this Christmas she was found as a stray in Nelsonville. Although she waited patiently, her family did not come for her. If you know River, it is hard to imagine leaving her in the shelter for even a moment.
You see, River has won everyone over in the shelter and we mean everyone. It could be her adorable underbite or her giant heart. River loves other dogs, and they seem to love her back. Sometimes you can catch her standing up and trying to say hi to the other dogs in the kennels around her. She has befriended the staff and volunteers, and you can tell she is genuinely pleased when you stop by her kennel to say hello. As one volunteer put it, “she’s been through so much but really takes it so well.” River is quite the optimist and seems to see the best in people and dogs. We can’t stand the thought of her heart being broken a third time. Please help us find her forever family.
