DRIVER, 12-31-23, male boxer mix, ~1 yo., 47#
When Driver came into the shelter on New Year’s Eve, he was a friendly young chap, but had no clue what to do amidst new faces and an unfamiliar environment. When you went to interact with him, he would play bow, jump up, then drop to the floor with his belly and paws up. We believe that Driver may have spent many of his early months tied up with limited opportunities to play or receive affection. What a heartbreaking life for any dog, but especially a young boxer mix.
To help him gain new skills, Driver moved to an alternative training site where he has been working with two gifted trainers. In a short period of time, Driver has mastered many new skills. He now knows basic commands, walks calmly on leash, has been keeping a clean crate, and uses his energy for structured play and enrichment with bones and puzzle toys. Driver also has gained a new appreciation for affection, praise, and touch. Most important, he now knows what to do when meeting new people and encountering new situations. Driver’s trainers have declared him home ready! Driver is still young and will need continued structure, but what an incredible opportunity to adopt a dog who has already received so much individualized training.
