Elizabeth Caroline Shaw

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 31, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Logan. Calling hours begin at 10 a.m.

LOGAN — Elizabeth Caroline Shaw, 94, a lifelong resident of Hocking County, died peacefully surrounded by family on March 23, 2023. 

Elizabeth was born April 10, 1928, in Logan, Ohio, to Lawrence and Dorothy Lortz Hansley. In June 1946 she married her sweetheart, the late Otto A. Shaw. Together, Elizabeth and Otto lived, farmed, and raised a wonderful family of six children and numerous grandchildren in Hocking County, the majority of that time at their beloved Fairview Farms in Rockbridge. Elizabeth was a life-long member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, where she worshiped God and served in numerous ministries including Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (Ladies Guild), Sunday School, Bible School, and Adult Bible Study. She was a member of the local Farm Bureau, Modern Mothers Club, and served on the board of the Hocking Valley Community Hospital for many years.      

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Otto, and daughter Sandra (Shaw) Courter; her parents, Lawrence and Dorothy Lortz Hansley; brothers Lawrence Hansley Jr. and James Hansley; and sisters Betty Crawford and Martha Crawford. 

Surviving are her daughter, Debbie (Ed) Penrod; sons Bill (Debbie) Shaw, Roger (Kathy) Shaw, Paul (Debra) Shaw, and Matt (Christine) Shaw, all living in Hocking County, and son-in-law Robert Courter of Madison WI; grandchildren Andrew (Anne-Marie) Courter, Zachary (Rachel) Courter, Margaret (Trevor) Breisch, Austin (Mary) Penrod, Alex (Jodie) Penrod, Mackenzie (Kyle Wilson) Shaw, Morgan (Nate) Wendling, Mallory (Doug) Cherryholmes, Hobie (Lauren) Shaw, Huntley Shaw, Gertrude (Kyle) Dilley, Otto (Ashley) Shaw, Eli (Lindsey) Shaw, Isaac (Hannah) Shaw, Clare Shaw, Maximillian Shaw, Ben Shaw, and Sophie Shaw; sisters Patty McDowell and Rita (Bill) Goss; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth’s Christian funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 31, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Logan, Ohio, with Pastor Danny Koch officiating. Calling hours will be immediately beforehand from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. A short burial service will be held in Fairview Cemetery in Rockbridge immediately afterwards.
