Joe C. Whitmore Sr.

Joe C. Whitmore Sr., 78 of Nelsonville passed away Friday January 24, 2025, at his residence.  Born September 13, 1946, in Hocking County, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Enola Smith Whitmore.  He retired after 34 years from Goodyear of Logan and later worked for Carbon Hill Water Association.  He attended the Longstreth Wesleyan Church.  He greatly enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and watching them participate in races. Additionally, he enjoyed assisting the kids with their four-wheelers and motorcycles, earning him the title of “garage mechanic.” He was also an avid enthusiast of car and motorcycle racing.

He is survived by his wife, Leah Patton Whitmore of Nelsonville; two sons, James Whitmore of Nelsonville and Tom Snyder of Nelsonville; two daughters, Kelly (Jay Jr.) Dishong of Pickerington and Jenny (Brian) Wik of Franklin, Indiana; grandchildren, Tyler (Katie) Whitmore, Alex (Tim) Snyder, Gage (Stasia Webber) Kreuz, Allison (Hunter) Wik, Leah Grace (Isaac) Waddell, Cooper Wik, Hannah Snyder, Colton Snyder, Sarah Whitmore, Justin Dishong, and Joseph Dishong; two great grandchildren, Corey Whitmore and Ryan Whitmore; a sister, Gay Cavote of Columbus; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Joe “Joey” Charles Whitmore Jr.; grandson, Nicholas Wik; a brother, Jack (Lola Ann) Whitmore; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Charles “Doc” and Evelyn Patton; sisters-in-law, Amy Lackey and Laurie Walton; and brothers-in-law, Don Cavote and Todd Patton.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday January 29, 2025, at the Whitmore Cemetery, Buchtel.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Morrison Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville.  A message of comfort may be sent to the family by visiting the tribute wall at www.morrisonfc.com.
