Laurie Lynn Torrence

GUYSVILLE- Laurie Lynn Torrence, 60, of Guysville, passed away Friday, August 23, 2024 at her home.  Born December 4, 1963 in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late Donald Fannin and Dorthy Fish Fannin.

A 1982 graduate of Shenandoah High School, she completed her education at University of Rio Grande and Ohio University in 1986.  She later earned a master’s degree in education.  She was a math teacher at Federal Hocking High School for 35 years, retiring in 2022.  After retirement, she returned to teaching 8th grade math at the Federal Hocking Middle High School.  Teaching was most important to Laurie.  She also enjoyed her family, grandchildren, cooking, baking, reading, Hallmark movies, her flower gardens and playing board games with family and friends.  She was a wonderful hostess at family events.

Laurie is survived by her husband of 38 years, Daniel “Dan” Torrence; three sons, Kyler B. (Joanna Tricaso) Torrence of Green, Brendan K. (Halle) Torrence of Marietta and Randall F. (Isis) Torrence of Athens; four grandchildren, Nico, Emilio, Kinsley and Kimberly Torrence; three sisters, Jennifer (Jim) Harding of Summerfield, Stacy (David) Slinger of Massillon and Kathy Fannin; a brother, Richard “Dick” (Jennifer) Fannin of Pleasant City; her mother-in-law, Frances McCracken of Sagamore Hills; her step mother in law, Twilla Torrence of Petal, MS; she is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and all of the students she has taught over the years.

Beside her parents, she is preceded in death by her father-in-law, James Torrence.  Visitation will be Wednesday, August 28th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Federal Hocking High School Gym, Stewart.  Funeral service will be conducted Thursday, Aug. 29th a 4:00 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens with Rev. Monte McCune officiating.  Burial will be in Halleys Ridge Memorial Cemetery, Ava, Noble County on Friday, Aug. 30th at 10:00 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Federal Hocking Local School, c/o Bruce Steenrod, Stewart, Ohio 45778.  Please share a memory, a note of condolence, or sign the online register at www.jagersfuneralhome.com.
