ATHENS – Leonard Zimmerman, 91, of Athens, Ohio passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, following a sudden serious illness. Born August 12, 1932, in Stewart, Ohio, Leonard was the son of the late John and Sylvia Zimmerman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Patty Ann Zimmerman and three brothers Lawrence, Bill, and Larry Zimmerman.
Leonard is survived by his three devoted sons Ken, Randy, and Tom Zimmerman; five grandchildren Amy (Daniel) Trumble, Kenny Zimmerman, Jr., Bethany Zimmerman, Katie Hill, and Ashley (Derrick) Waters; seven great-grandchildren Hannah Trumble, Zander Zimmerman, Mason Hill, Peyton, Jaden, Carter, and Zoey Waters; four brothers Ralph (Dorothy), Jess, John, and Roger Zimmerman; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Leonard was a self-described ordinary man who was often heard saying, “The most important thing in my life is to always have faith in the Lord and knowing He looks after us. The Lord’s will should always be done.” A quiet, gentle person, Leonard enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was an avid sports fan. Leonard was a Veteran of the United States Army and served his country during the Korean Conflict. He married Patty Heavner on July 5, 1955, and in 1956 they built their home on Bean Hollow Road in Athens, Ohio, where they lived for the remainder of their lives and raised their family. Leonard retired after 32 years as a United States Postal employee and worked at the Athens Post Office. He was a devoted member of the McDougal Church.

Funeral service will be conducted Friday 3:00 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, 24 Morris Avenue, Athens, with Pastor Stanley Strode officiating. Friends may call Friday 2:00 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Athens Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Military Rites will be conducted by KT Crossen Post 21 American Legion and VFW Post 9893 Honor Guard at the cemetery.
