ATHENS, Ohio — Linda Wakefield Keffer, 76, of Athens died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023, at Kimes Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Athens. Born May 10, 1947, in Athens, she was the daughter of the late Robert H. Wakefield and Betty E. Daft Wakefield.
A 1965 graduate of Athens High School, she received her bachelor’s degree in education from Ohio University in 1968. She was a school teacher and taught second grade at Chauncey Elementary School for two years, and for 33 years taught fourth and sixth grades in the Alexander school system. She was a partner in Paulinda’s Small World on Court Street from 1978 to 1981. She was a member of the Athens Senior Citizens and enjoyed bus trips with the group. She cherished her weekly lunches and time spent with her close friends. She also enjoyed her pet cats.
Linda is survived by two daughters, Gwen (Scott) Brooks of Athens and Amy (Tony) Dicken of Sellersburg, Indiana; four grandchildren, Mitchell Dicken, Sydney Dicken, Shay Brooks and Seth Brooks; and a brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Susan Wakefield of Athens. She is also survived by several close cousins and many close friends.
Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens, with burial in Alexander Cemetery. Friends may call 4–7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
