To the editor:
Election Day is coming soon! November 5 is the day for the general election. How will you vote? Will you vote in person on Election Day at your polling place? Will you vote early in person at your county Board of Elections office (15 S. Court Street in Athens)? Will you vote by Absentee Ballot? We encourage every eligible voter to have a plan.
When voting in person, either early at the Board of Elections office or on Election Day, you must have an unexpired photo ID. Acceptable photo IDs are limited to the following:
- Ohio driver’s license
- State of Ohio ID card issued by the Ohio BMV
- Interim ID form issued by the Ohio BMV
- A US passport
- A US passport card
- US military ID card
- Ohio National Guard ID card
- US Department of Veterans Affairs ID card
Expired photo IDs will not be accepted for voting purposes. Double-check that your ID is acceptable before showing up to vote in person!
To vote by absentee ballot, identification can be by any of the photo IDs listed above, or by the last four digits of your Social Security number. An absentee ballot application form must be filled out and submitted to the Board of Elections office. Those forms are available at VoteOhio.gov, the Board of Elections office, and public libraries.
On October 8, early in-person voting will begin, and absentee ballots will start being sent to voters who have submitted applications.
The League of Women Voters provides information about candidates and ballot issues by organizing candidate forums and producing a voter guide. To view our candidate forums, visit AthensLeagueofWomenVoters.org and to access the voter guide, visit Vote411.org.
We encourage every eligible voter to register, learn, and vote. Democracy depends on the participation of all eligible voters!
