To the editor:
I hope so much that U.S. citizens are about to elect a woman for U.S. President. Being a child of the 1950s, I have waited long for this to be achieved. Now Democrat Kamala Harris is climbing the steep hill to the highest U.S. political office and promises Americans a thoughtful, caring, strong, and sane voice for the presidency. If you do not know about her campaign platform, consider, in brief, Kamala’s intentions:
Abortion
Ms Harris has long supported women’s right to an abortion, and continues to advocate for legislation that would enshrine reproductive rights nationwide.
Gaza-Israel War
Kamala has called for an “immediate cease-fire,” raised deep concerns over the “humanitarian catastrophe for Palestinians,” and calls Israel to end the conflict. She supports a two state solution for resolving the conflict.
Ukraine
Ms Harris will support Ukraine “for as long as it takes.”
Immigration
Kamala supported and still supports a hardline bipartisan border security bill that would have fast-tracked decisions on asylum cases, limited humanitarian parole, and called for strong immigration limitations. These initiatives were introduced earlier this year in Congress, but were defeated due to Trump’s influence in order that he could play the immigration card in his 2024 election campaign.
Healthcare
Ms Harris says that she wants to erase billions of dollars in medical debt for Americans and would work with states on the issue. She supports expanding publicly-funded health-care programs in the US that cover the elderly, youth with disabilities and poor.
Child tax credit
Kamala supports a child tax credit of $6000 for parents of newborns, and a return of up to $3,600 for young children.
Tax Plan
Ms Harris would provide bigger tax benefits for families, offsetting the costs by raising corporate taxes. 95% of Americans would see lower taxes, and higher earners would earners would pay more taxes.
This is a person who cares about your needs and the needs of all Americans.
