Letters to the Editor

Thanks to volunteers rallying, sharing information

To the editor:

Until sidelined by a medical condition, I was a member of two volunteer groups in Athens: Athens 50501 and the Neighborhood Committee of Athens Democratic Party.  As I’ve watched from that sideline, I was/am amazed at the dedication, energy and tenacity that this group of volunteers brings to their missions.  The community and I thank you!

Athens 50501 is a NON-PARTISAN group dedicated to providing opportunities for We the People to voice our views.  Working behind the scene, they organize the periodic rallies on State Street.  Those well-organized events provide citizens with: the opportunity to voice their opinions; tables to register to vote and sign petitions;  produce lovely scrolls for citizens the opportunity to sent messages to their elected officials; and collect food and warm clothing for the needy.

Next rally is 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday, October 17, and the theme is, Vote.

The Neighborhood Committee is partisan and has two missions:  to register (and encourage) voters and to provide the voters of Athens County with truthful information about Democrat Candidates.  If you have had an individual come to your door with the goal of listening to your concerns and then to share information about Democrat Candidates, you have met one of those volunteers; or, if you have received a postcard, from the Democratic Party, with information about the upcoming election and Democratic Candidates, those cards were processed by volunteers.

I circle back the main purpose of this Letter to the Editor is to thank all of those volunteers. Keep your eyes on the finish lines.  I will be there at the finish lines when you cross them! Thank you!
