To the editor:
It has been widely reported that some folks who voted for the current administration are having second thoughts. I have seen a few of their statements expressing their anguish as the loss of jobs and vital services have hit close to home.
I have also seen responses from some who don’t like the current administration putting those people down. Some people suggest they deserve all the bad things that happen to them and their families.
I believe this is an enormous mistake. We need to be reaching with compassion and understanding for folks we may have disagreed with. No one deserves the mistreatment and callous disregard currently being dished out.
We do get to be angry, of course, but it makes no sense to take that out on our sisters and brothers. They are also being victimized by a system based on power and greed. Let’s build a movement that includes more and more people. Let’s work to welcome everyone into the struggle for a better world.
