To the editor:
“I will forever be proud to have grown up in a loving, caring, and supportive community,” says Max Mace, this year’s reigning Parade of the Hills Queen.
For 75 years, the Parade of the Hills Festival has been a Nelsonville tradition, uniting generations in music, food, fun, and community spirit. Each year, a Queen is selected to represent these values and serve as the festival’s ambassador. The title comes with a $2,500 scholarship, while the first and second runners-up receive $500 and $250, respectively.
A proud Nelsonville native and current Ohio University undergraduate, Max has traveled more than 5,500 miles this year, representing the festival at over 35 parades, festivals, and special events. Her enthusiasm, leadership, and genuine warmth have left a lasting impression everywhere she’s gone. In addition to her title as Queen, Max was also voted Miss Congeniality and won Best Formal for her original style.
Reflecting on her reign, Max shares, “I will forever be grateful for each and every one of you! I will use the skills and lessons I’ve learned on this journey throughout college as I pursue my Art Education degree.” Outside of her royal duties, Max performs with Ohio University’s Marching 110 on tuba, enjoys painting, and spending time with her new puppy, Pepper.
We commend Max Mace for her remarkable contributions and for serving as an inspiring role model for our community. Join us this Saturday as she passes the crown to the next Parade of the Hills Queen for 2025!
