Your thorough and professional journalism is a great blessing to our region. Athens and the surrounding area needs exactly the kind of reporting you so consistently provide.
As a senior citizen I remember the days when The Messenger covered area school board meetings, local elections, school sports events, town/gown controversies, township trustee concerns, and even school musicals. OU news was available, but not to the exclusion of news that affects permanent residents of the region.
I also remember the glut in in-depth reporting of important local issues when The Messenger was bought out and local in-depth journalism virtually disappeared.
Knowledge of what is going on in our community is the single most important contributor to the sense that we ARE a community.
I want to say THANK YOU for your hard work, diligence and dedication to providing the careful in-depth reporting that any community would be proud and grateful to have.
