To the editor:
It’s very obvious to me that unfortunately this woman had a difficult time keeping her opinions on sensitive subjects, politics and religion, out of the workplace. No workplace I know of condones it and Passionworks should be no exception. It’s a business. Ms. Mitchell’s approach is different than most but in the end the business needs to be sustainable to exist and every employee has their individual role in that workplace. The country has become a very different and divided country and one’s opinions can be either inflammatory or unifying to another. They may be valid or not, however the workplace is no place to air them. Passionworks, for anyone who knows anything about it or has frequented the shop can see and feel the warmth and excitement of the mission. As Ms. Mitchell says, the studio (the business) is a place where EVERYONE needs to feel included and comfortable. Politics really have no place there, just like in schools, at least for now sadly, and to twist it into something it’s not isn’t right. This woman was making others uncomfortable and didn’t come to work for 30 days. She deserved to be fired, as most anyone would. It’s just business.
