CHAUNCEY- Lucille “Lu” Pierce Slisher Buck, 91, of Chauncey, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster.  Born February 15, 1935 at the family home on Salem Road, Athens County, she was the daughter of the late Forrest L. Pierce and Lucille E. Six Pierce.  She was a lifelong resident of Athens County except for the three years her family moved to New York City during WW II.

She was a graduate of Brown Zaleski High School, The International Accountants Society (through the University of Chicago) and continuing education courses in secretarial studies at Ohio University.

She worked fourteen years for McBee Systems, nine years for Athens Credit Union (now Atomic Credit Union) and then began her career working for several local car dealers for the next thirty years.  She was Business Accounting Manager for Paul Raitz Service & Sales Volkswagen, Brady Buick and Belville Motors of Logan.  She also worked for Don Wood Automotive and two seasons for H&R Block and one year with Harold Brown Accounting.  

She was a ten year member of Athens Business and Professional Women’s Club, where she served as Treasurer for two years.  She was a volunteer for the Boy Scout merit badge counselor in gardening, personal finance and water skiing.  She attended the Bread of Life Church in Jacksonville and the Church of God in Chauncey, and was a Sunday School teacher until later years.  She spent thirteen years in jail ministry at Tri-County Correctional Institution.  She loved doing interior decorating, flower arrangements, swimming, gardening and canning her own food.

Lucille is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Steven B. and Anita J. Buck of Chauncey a grandson, Zachary A. Buck of Chauncey; a sister in law, Stella Pierce of Millfield; two nieces; Kathy Thomas of Millfield and Karen (Scott) Johnson of Fayetteville, GA; a special niece, Marian Buck North Hogsett of Trimble; and two nephews, James Buck of Chauncey and Kenneth Buck of The Plains.

Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Chester L. “Chet” Buck, Sr.; a step son Chester “Buzz” Buck, Jr.; a brother, Wilbur K. Pierce; and an infant brother Leslie W. Pierce.

Funeral service will be conducted Friday, March 13, 2026 at the Chauncey Church of God, Mound St., Chauncey with Pastor Larry Swart officiating.  Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, Waterloo Township.  Friends may call Friday from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the church.  Arrangements are with Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens.  Please share a memory, a note of condolence or sign the online register at www.jagersfuneralhome.com.
