Make a voting plan now for Nov. 7 general election

To the editor:

The League of Women Voters of Athens County encourages all eligible voters to make your voting plan now!

Register, Update or Check Your Registration — the deadline is October 10!

You are eligible to register to vote if you are at least 18 years old by election day (Nov. 7, 2023), a US citizen, and are not currently incarcerated for a felony. You need to update your registration if you have moved or changed your name since your last registration. You can register online at VoteOhio.gov. Or you can pick up a paper form at the Athens County Board of Elections office (15 S. Court St., Athens), or at any local library.

We encourage all voters to look up your voter registration online at VoteOhio.gov to ensure your registration and address information are up to date.

Make a Voting Plan

How will you vote this fall: Absentee Ballot, Early In-Person Voting, or In Person on Election Day?

An unexpired photo ID is required to vote in person, either early or on election day. Acceptable photo IDs are limited to:

  • OH Driver’s License
  • OH State ID card issued by BMV
  • Interim ID issued by the Ohio BMV
  • US Passport/Passport card
  • US Military ID
  • OH National Guard ID
  • US Department of Veterans Affairs ID

The photo ID must be unexpired. Double check that your ID is acceptable before showing up in person!

To vote by absentee ballot, identification can be any of the photo IDs listed above or the last four digits of your Social Security number. Voters who want to vote by absentee ballot must submit an official Absentee Ballot Request form. Those forms are available at VoteOhio.gov, the Board of Elections Office, or local libraries.

On October 11 early in-person voting begins and absentee ballots start being sent to voters.

Information on our local candidate forums and voter guide is at AthensLeagueOfWomenVoters.org. Please check back as we update details.

We encourage every eligible citizen to register, learn, and vote. Democracy depends on the participation of all eligible voters.
