THE PLAINS- Mary S. “Susie” Young, 79, of The Plains died Thursday morning, August 8, 2024 at OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital, Athens. Born May 5, 1945 in Athens, she was the daughter of the late Raymond G. Smith and June E. Ervin Smith.
She was a homemaker in the family home and enjoyed movies, word puzzles and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Susie is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Young of The Plains and Kristina (Marc) Riley of Nelsonville; three grandchildren, Katlynn (Trey) Eschbaugh of Eau Claire, WI, Taylor Riley of Nelsonville and Brody Riley of Nelsonville; two great grandchildren, Kolten and Bailey Grube; a sister, Sandra Syrus of Gallipolis and twin sisters, Marilyn Smith and Carolyn Hopkins both of Logan; several brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James H. Young in 2017; her son, Jeffrey Young in 2015; two sisters, Janis Smith and Deanna Smith; and a brother, William Smith. Funeral service will be conducted Monday, Aug. 12th at 1:00 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens. Burial will be in Hilltop Cemetery, Millfield. Friends may call Sunday 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home for expenses.
