JACKSONVILLE – Danny W. Swart, 74 of Jacksonville passed away Friday, May 1, 2026, at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital, Athens. Born June 2, 1951, in Athens, he was the son of the late Virgil and Pauline Higgins Swart.
He worked for 15 years at Lawhead Press. After the company closed, he began a career in banking working at both the Corning Bank and First National Bank. He later retired from Lowe’s in Athens. Following his retirement, he enjoyed cruising and traveling to various countries. He was an avid fan of the Reds, Bengals, and Ohio State Buckeyes. He was also a member of the Trimble Masonic Lodge F.&A.M. #557.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Emily Chalfant Swart; a son, Kyle (Christine) Swart; brothers, Steve and Rob Swart; special nephew, David (Carol) Brown; sisters-in-law, Grace Ann Swart, Judy Kittle and Dixie Blower; brothers-in-law, Ernie Chalfant and Jerry Brown; many nieces and nephews; a special friend, Charles Campbell; a special friend since seventh grade, Janalee Brunton, who as kids would sit on her steps together eating dog bones.
Dan was a good friend to all. He loved his dogs, Bella, who is now deceased, Sadie and Stryker. He enjoyed taking his dogs on daily walks and every night he made sure to tell each one of them goodnight individually.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Kay (Eric) Green and Dianne (Lynn) Flake; brothers, Rolland and Richard (Pat) Swart; a niece, Lisa Flake; brother-in-law, Terry Chalfant; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Florence and Ernest Chalfant; and his grandparents.
A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at the Morrison Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville with Jon Hanning officiating. There will be a Masonic Service held at 7:30 p.m. A visitation will take place on Wednesday from 5 p.m. until the time of service.
