THE PLAINS, Ohio –– Donna Jean Hunter Brown, 84, of The Plains, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2026. Born November 20, 1941 in Marietta, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Robert W. and Mildred Meek Hunter. She graduated from The Plains High School and resided in Athens County all her life.
Donna worked for 34 years at Ohio University in different departments, and retired in September 1999. She Is a member of The Plains United Methodist Church, a former member of Alpha Tau Chapter of Sigma Phi Gamma International Sorority and a member of Jan’s Fans Euchre club.
Donna is survived by her daughter, Debbra Jean Riggs, and son, Dennis Lee Brown, both of The Plains; a brother, Garry E. (Becky) Hunter of Athens; three grandchildren, Stephanie (Ben) Eldridge of Marion, Illinois, Jason (Courtney) Riggs of College Grove, Tennessee and Travis Brown of Athens; three great-grandsons, Drue and Drake Riggs of College Grove, Tennessee and Asher Eldridge & great grand-daughter Ellie Eldridge of Marion, Illinois. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Darrell Larry “Jiggs” Brown; a brother, Larry E. (Mary) Hunter; her father and mother, Robert and Mildred Hunter; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Vaughn and Bereda Lonas Brown; three brothers-in-law, John Edgar Brown, Dana Lee Brown and Bobby Brown; and a sister-in-law Betty Andrews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens with the Rev. David Roach officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday 11:00 a.m. until time of the service. Burial will be in West Union Street Cemetery, Athens, Ohio.
