Evelyn Houk

ATHENS, Ohio – Evelyn Houk, 95, formerly of Athens died Monday evening, May 18, 2026, at the Ohio Order of Eastern Star Home, Mt. Vernon.  She was born October 18, 1930, in Pleasant Hill (Miami County), Ohio.

A graduate of Newton High School, she attended Miami University,  and received an Honorary Degree from Ohio University.  She was employed at Holbart Manufacturing (where she met her future husband, Clifford C. Houk) and the Bursar’s Office at Ohio University.  She enjoyed being an at home mother, raising her children.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Athens and the Downtown Athens Kiwanis Club.  She was a 65 year member of Athens Chapter 175 Order of Eastern Star, where she served at Past Worthy Matron.  She was a Resident Board Member of the Ohio Order of Eastern Home.  She volunteered with the Athens High School Band Boosters and the O’Bleness Memorial Hospital.  She was a member of the O.U. Community Band and was a founding member of the O.U. Green and White Club.

Evelyn is survived by a daughter, Melissa Knight of New Marshfield; two sons- Marc (Gail) Houk of Medina and Scott Houk of Athens; five grandchildren- Von Houk, Jesse (Marti) Knight, Jamie Knight, Jeremi Knight, and Alex Folden; several great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Dr. Clifford C. Houk, who died December 30, 2015; a sister, Elizabeth Grove; and a brother, Luther Zimmerman.

Funeral service will be conducted noon Tuesday, May 26, at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Robbie Scott officiating.  Burial will in Alexander Cemetery, Hebbardsville.  Friends may call 11 a.m. until time of service. Athens Chapter 175 Order of Eastern Star will hold memorial services Tuesday at 11:50 a.m. at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Ohio University Foundation, P.O. Box 869, Athens, Ohio 45701.
