
SHADE, Ohio –– Floyd Gilbert Hart, or “Wort,” 86, of Shade, Ohio, left us unexpectedly Friday, February 13, 2026, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. Born July 26, 1939, in Columbus, he was the son of the late Cecil A. and Margaret Brammer Hart of Athens.
He was married to the love of his life, Billie Sue (Cullison) Hart, of Shade. He attended Athens Schools and was a heavy equipment operator for many years. He had a special little buddy, his little Yorkie, Cricket, that he adored. He also loved fishing and hunting, and was always full of laughter.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Billie Sue. He has two children, Lora Hart Haning and her spouse Warren Haning, and Floyd Thomas “Tommy” Hart. He is also survived by brothers and sisters including: Paulette Hamilton, Erma Black, Martha (Jean) Triplett Jacquelyn Sue Alvis, Mary Sharpe of Chauncey, George Hart, and Bob “Wink” Hart; several neices and nephews; several grandchildren including: Brian Hart, Brandon Norman, Angelia Norman, Tyler Wolfe, Michael Wolfe, Stephan Hart, Austin Hart, and Ethan Hart.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Cecil “Buggs” Hart, Johnny Hart, Bobby Mollihan, Cecilia “Jo” and her husband Bill Wilson, Mikey Triplett, Kay Hart and Andy Sharpe; and a daughter-in-law, Christina Hart.
Funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19 at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens, with Gary Alton officiating. Burial will be in West Union St. Cemetery. Friends may call 11 a.m.–1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
