ATHENS — Glen Ray “Shady” Goins, Jr., also known as “Junior,” age 53, of Athens, passed away Sunday evening, May 24, 2026. Born March 14, 1973, in Athens, he was the son of Glen Ray Goins, Sr. and Ann Fletcher Goins of Athens. He was the grandson of Liz and Ray Baker, Tom and Jane Fletcher, and William and Lucille Goins.
A graduate of Athens High School, Shady worked faithfully and diligently for the City of Athens Street Department, retiring after 25 years of dedicated service. He also operated his own stucco business, always working hard to provide for his family.
Shady was a strong supporter of the Black and White Nation motorcycle community and a believer in true brotherhood. He was also a retired member of HCMC.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Kimberly Shover Goins; his children, Rodney (Joeline), Michael (Katlyn), Crystal (Johnathan), Brittany Buck and Samantha (Mitchell); thirteen grandchildren; two sisters, Angie (Seth) Waldron of Albany and April (Bill) Butterworth of Albany; several special people he counted on, including Sharla Erb, Scott “Pops” Garrett, and all his brothers; along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. His wife wanted to make a special mention of Wanda Hudnell. Glen was very vocal about what a great mother she was to his kids and he was very grateful.
Shady was a man who was never afraid to get dirty when no one else would. He never knew how to leave anyone behind, regardless of the risk, and never sought recognition or reward. Whatever job was placed in his hands, he approached with perfection and determination, never willing to be outworked no matter the task. His heart was always open to others, proven time and time again to both friends and strangers alike.
His love for his family was an unbreakable bond, no matter the hardships or stresses involved. Right or wrong, you were always going to be loved.
His love flowed like the ocean — forever moving and never breaking. He was calm and peaceful during good times, yet fierce like a hurricane when it came time to protect his family, brothers, and sisters.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
