
ATHENS, Ohio –– Melvin Clarence Oxley, age 78, of Athens died late Thursday evening, December 11, 2025, at The Laurels of Athens. Born in Athens September 10, 1947, he was the son of the late Aubrey Clarence Oxley and Ellen McCune Oxley.
A 1965 graduate of Athens High School, he retired from the City of Athens Street Department after several years of service. He attended the former Athens Church of God. He enjoyed auctions, yard sales, country music and sports.
Melvin is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara Johnson Oxley; a sister, Carolyn (Dennis) Riley of Athens; a niece, Amy (David) Carder of Athens; a great niece, Kayla Carder : a great nephew, Justin (Anna) Carder; two great-great nieces, Kyleigh and Aubree Malone; and a sister-in-law, Judy Davis of Parkersburg, WV.
Besides his parents he is preceded in death by two sisters-in-law; and four brothers-in-law.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home in Athens. A graveside service will follow at West Union St. Cemetery with Rev. Phil Ridenour officiating.
