OHIO – Hi. My name is Paul Eugene Moore. I was born to Virginia H. (Shaw) Moore & Charles Edward Moore on December 14, 1950, in the upstairs bedroom of my grandparents home in Palos, Ohio. I passed away this past Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at the age of 75. Too young in my opinion, but I suppose everyone thinks that when the time comes.
I have two older brothers, John E. Moore (wife Patty) and Richard E Moore (wife Peach) and a younger sister, Mary Elaine Taylor (husband John). Imagine stepping in Heaven and finding everyone you’ve loved and lost waiting there for you. I’ll be joyously joining my parents, Rick & Elaine, and many more friends and family that’s paved my way for this new adventure.
Susan E. (Lewis) Moore, My Susie Q…Thank you for taking care of me these past 52 years. For being a partner in raising our three beautiful daughters. You were the love of my whole life, from the day we met until the day I died. We sure had some good times! I will cherish every second we had together…every single one. I know the absence of my physical presence will be the hardest for you, but I AM WITH YOU. You’ll feel my presence in the moments you need me the most. I heard you when you asked me to stay, and I would have if I could have. My body was spent and it was time to let it rest. You have so many more years of happiness to experience. This is what I ask of you now: Keep living. Do the scary stuff. Enjoy the kids. Hug our future great grandbabies (hint, hint to all the grandkids). I love you, always and forever…from as far away as heaven you will feel my love. We WILL be there together someday in the far far away future.
My Girls: Mis, Crys, & Court. Keep it together girls. I’m counting on you to help your Mom. You each have a part of me that you need the most, and I know you feel that. And I know you see me in each other too. I am so very proud of you all. There has never been a set of sisters more different, but more the same, as you three. Misty, you keep the history and our traditions alive. Tell all my stories to our future generations, make sure everyone is getting together for the important stuff. Crys, my globe trotter…I don’t even have to ask you to do the traveling that I didn’t get to do. I’m sure you have your next big trip already planned. Enjoy the experience, but don’t forget to come home more, it’s good for the heart. Thank you for the years of working side-by-side in the Diner. They were my favorite times. Corky Michelle…my actual mini-me in all the ways that counts. When you decided to be a welder, I’m not sure I could have been more proud of anyone. I know taking care of me and mom the past few years was hard. I know that my dementia did not make dealing with me the easiest either. I want to thank you for that. Thank you for doing so much. Please live your own life and be happy.
Ryan McClelland, Jeff Geitter, & Jay Stump…I hope my shoes are hard to fill so that you have to really make an effort to live up to me. That means I did a good job as a man and father. Your jobs are laid out in-front of you. Respect my girls. Help them. Love them and tell them so….tell them as many times as you can. There is never too much love to give them. They are all too independent for their own good. They chose the perfect men for themselves. Ryan, thank you for being such a good father, especially before you were ready. Jeff, thank you for taking care of Crys. She does for so many others, and it’s nice that you notice that and give her the help she needs. Jay…Thank you for being my coffee barista. I gotta tell ya, I was pretty darn excited to finally get a fan of WWE in the family! (No offense Ryan or Jeff, but IYKYK) Court is stubborn and if you don’t move fast enough when she needs help, she’ll do it herself, but I don’t have to tell you that. You keep chipping away at that brick wall she puts up. Love her hard. She deserves happiness and you and the kids make her happy.
For anyone that has grandkids, I don’t have to tell you that they are the absolute light of our lives. Sue and I may have the best though. Our Scotty Boy (Austin Moore) – painting pennies gold to make pirate treasure was just as fun for me as it was for you. Getting one of your bear hugs is like hugging my dad again. Abbadoo (Abigayle McClelland), no better sound than hearing you bound through the door yelling “Hey Pauly” and don’t even get me started on the bird watching! Emmie (Emily Ward), my match at naps and cuddles, and that smile that melted my heart every time, Alex (Alexander McClelland), my little fishing buddy, my most treasured gifts are the ones you made me. You’ll be the cook of your generation. Don’t forget to tell everyone that you learned everything you know from me (even though your mom probably deserves a little credit), Ethan (Ethan James-Paul Ward), my namesake and fellow Brother in Service. When you joined the Air Force, I’m surprised I didn’t drop dead of pride right then and there. Noyelle & Noaah Stump, I wish you could have experienced me in my prime “grandpa” era, but when you came into our lives it had been a good while since we had little kid laughs in the house. It’s always been the best to see Sue tease the grandkids (Sue has the best sense of humor and she’s as ornery as the kids) and I was glad to experience that again. It’s true when people say having grandchildren is better than having your own kids. I can speak for Grandma when I say that we could never have seen you too much, heard too much of your laughter, had enough of your hugs and kisses. Thank you for holding me when I passed on from this life. I felt you all there with me, your physical presence and in-spirit. I’m pretty sure that as far as dying goes, having most of your grandkids surrounding you might be the best way to go.
If you’ve stuck with me this far, now for the party details. I’ll be awaiting your visit at Oakdale Church of Christ, 22808 Oakdale Rd, Glouster, OH 45732 on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. I respectfully ask you to clear out between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. so I can have a private moment with my family, and for those of you that would like to attend my funeral, doors open at 4 p.m. and we’ll get started shortly after. My family has arranged a private graveside military service at a later date. Internment will be at the Glouster Cemetery, not far from my Love & Shaw family. I have a lovely spot under two large trees where I’ll continue to enjoy bird watching throughout all the seasons. And it’s worth adding a footnote here: I didn’t know my time was here, so I didn’t prepare this obituary in advance. I’ve tasked Misty to write this for me, so if you become bored halfway through reading it, take it up with her. She’ll be the one standing by me at the front of the church.
If you’d like to skip the flowers, please feel free to contribute to the American Legion Post 414, c/o John Taylor, 9944 Moore Rd., Glouster, OH 45732…or you can track down Marvin Shamhart and drop off a check to him.
A huge “Thank You” to all of the wonderful nurses at Obleness Hospital and Riverside Methodist Hospital that cared for me with compassion, efficiency, and kindness. You do not have a “job”, you have a calling. What you do takes skill, a steady hand, and an immense emotional toll. I saw you and I appreciated every moment.
Until it’s your time…Keep the faith so you can join me. And when your time comes, support small businesses. Morrison Funeral Chapel (Tee & Cheri Morrison) are the best in the business.
