CHAUNCEY, Ohio –– Randy Mark Gunter, 67, of Chauncey died early Friday morning, January 2, 2026, at his home. Born November 3, 1958, in Columbus, he was the son of the late Ivor Boling and Katherine “Kat” McCabe Gunter Boling.
He attended Columbus City Schools, Tacoma School of Broadcasting (1979) and Brown Institute of Broadcasting, FCC Certified (1980). He was a salesman at Ricart’s and Ricart’s RV, a forklift operator at Forward Air in Groveport, a property inspector, and a maintenance tech at Global Cooling and Sterling Ultracold in Athens. He also was an advertising account executive for the Ohio Fisherman magazine. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving at Ft. Lewis Washington as a communication specialist from 1975 to 1978. He enjoyed grilling, fishing, the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Reds and Bengals.
Randy was a devoted husband, son in law, and brother that loved his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Peggy Bruce Gunter; two step sons, Larry Rutter of Athens and Lance (Lori) Rutter of Athens; two grandchildren, Jack & Molly Rutter; a brother, Cory Gunter of Sugar Grove; his mother in law, Edith Bruce of Chauncey; several nieces and nephews; and his pet companions, Bela and Louie.
Besides his step father and mother, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Patty and Joyce; four brothers, Norman, Mickey, Rodney and Steve; and a sister in law, Diana Enevoldsen.
At Randy’s request, no services will be observed. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are with Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens.
