NELSONVILLE, Ohio –– Ruth Ann Hanson, 74, of Nelsonville, passed away Friday, Sept. 26, 2025, at her residence. Born Jan. 14, 1951, in Millfield, she was the daughter of the late Elwood and Teheresa Barrett Hanson.
She was a 1969 graduate of Athens High School. Ruth Ann worked for Tri County Community Action for 30 years, where she played a significant role in helping unemployed miners prepare for new careers. She later retired from Hocking County Job and Family Services. She was an avid football fan, and especially enjoyed following Nelsonville York, Ohio State and Cleveland Browns. She had a love for reading and found great enjoyment spending time at the library. In addition to her fondness for reading, Ruth Ann held a special place in her heart for cats.
She is survived by her daughter, Rachelle B. (James) Burcher of Nelsonville; two grandsons, Alex Burcher and Jakob Burcher; a great grandson, Koltin; sisters, Barbara Rollins of Nelsonville and Suzan (John) Wagner of Nelsonville; her beloved cat, Callie; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Paul, Pat, and Rolland Hanson.
Ruth Ann’s wishes were to be cremated and there will be no services observed. Contributions in memory of Ruth Ann can be made to the Nelsonville Public Library, 95 W.
