THE PLAINS, Ohio –– Shirley Joy Dupler, 89, of The Plains, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2026, at Ohio Health O’Bleness Hospital in Athens. Born October 27, 1936, in Chauncey, she was the daughter of the late Elmer James and Clara Christensen James.
A 1954 graduate of Athens High School, she was employed at Midget Motors, Chapman Jewelers, and for 20 years at Dwight Rutherford Insurance.She was a member of Alpha Chapter of Sigma Phi Gamma, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Moose Lodge. She enjoyed cooking, shopping and trips to the casino.
Shirley is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Norm & Valerie Dupler of Kettering; three grandsons, Alex Dupler, Jake Dupler, and Zach Dupler, all of Kettering; and many wonderful and caring cousins, friends and neighbors.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Norman Ralph Dupler.
A memorial service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, 24 Morris Ave., Athens, with a burial following at Athens Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Athens High School Band where Shirley had many fond memories of playing her saxophone with friends.
