Thelma Hillyer

THE PLAINS, Ohio — Thelma Mae Hillyer, 93, of The Plains died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025, at OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital, Athens. Born Dec. 30, 1931, in Murray City, she was the daughter of the late Donald Hillyer ad Mabel Linscott Hillyer.

A graduate of New Straitsville High School, she was employed for over 40 years at the Timken Roller Bearing Company in Columbus as an executive secretary. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of The Plains.

Thelma is survived by a sister, Ruth Wilson of The Plains; several nieces and a nephew, Renee Shimwell , Lee Hillyer, Carla Smeyers, and Samatha Trost; great nieces and great nephews, Benjamin and McCullin Shimwell, Brook Holcomb, and Lisa Schein.

Besides her parents she is preceded in death by a half sister, Dorothy Morgan, and a brother, Gene Hillyer.
