Walter L. Williams

JACKSONVILLE, Ohio — Walter L. Williams, 86, of Jacksonville passed away on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025, at his residence. Born November 27, 1938, he was the son of the late James Frank and Helen Mae Coontz Williams. 

He was a retired carpenter who had worked for Major Builders in Columbus. Walter enjoyed farming, trapping, woodworking, and gardening.

He is survived by a son, John (Lori Zofchak) Williams of Millfield; two daughters, Sandra “San” (Shawn Stover) Sharp of Shade and Barbara (Ron) Byrd of Leesburg, Florida; grandchildren, Jessica (Jon) Rahe, Christopher, Samuel, and Robert Sharp, Ashley (Travis) Dearth, Johnathon (Stephanie) Williams, Amanda Bombard, and Brittany, Emily, Jeanne, Rhoda, and Kailey Byrd; 18 great-grandchildren; a great-grandchild who holds a special place in his heart, “Whistle”; two sisters, Dorothy Vincent of Ashville, Ohio, and Mary Jane Williams-Waters of Grove City; the mother of his children, Amy Jo Thurston; and five stepchildren he helped raise.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Sue Sanborn Williams; a daughter, Annette Irene Herbst; a granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Deerwester; a daughter-in-law, Vickie Williams; and siblings George Williams, Betty Cline, and Pauline Rush.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2025, at the Morrison Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville. Interment will be in the Carbon Hill Cemetery.
