MILLFIELD, Ohio — Oris Eldon Smith, 75, of Millfield, died Friday, July 10, 2026, at his home with his family. Born July 21, 1950, in Pomeroy, he was the son of the late Horace E. Smith and Margene Jeffers Smith.
He attended Eastern High School and had been employed at Ohio University as a custodian and the Pepsi Bottling Plant as foreman. He was a member of Airline Church of Christ. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and was known as an excellent pie baker.
Oris is survived by his wife, Sheila Brown Smith; three granddaughters, Kari Lowery, of Portsmouth, Jessica Whitmore, of Glouster and Caity Brown, of The Plains; four great-grandchildren, Lucille and Lillian Lottridge, and Roger and Ryder Whitmore; a special niece and her husband, who were Oris’s caregivers, Samantha and Jay Winchell; two brothers, Warren (Debbie) Smith of Reedsville and Leroy Smith, of Millfield; a son-in-law, Greg Brown, of Albany; a brother-in-law, Dan Brown, of Millfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his daughter, Terri Brown; two sisters, Helen, and Rita Mae Smith; and three brothers, Roger, Jimmy and David Smith.
The family would like to thank the staff and nurses of Buckeye Hospice, and the care team of Katlyn, Josie, Brandie and Heather.
Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, July 15 at 2 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home in Athens, officiated by H. Willard Love, Minister. Burial will be in Cherry Ridge Cemetery, Bedford Township, Meigs County. Friends may call Wednesday from noon until time of service at the funeral home.
