ATHENS, Ohio –– Patricia A. Holbert, 87, of Glouster passed away Saturday June 21, 2025, at The Laurels of Athens. Born September 1, 1937, in Chauncey, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and O’Tillia Morrison Sweeney.
Patty was the valedictorian of the 1955 Glouster High School Class. After graduation, she began her career at the Ohio State University School of Engineering. Over the years, she continued her career by working for Columbus Southern Electric, currently known as AEP, and later retired from Trimble Local Schools.
She was a longtime member of the Glouster Church of Christ, an active member of the Trimble Textbook and Supplies Foundation, former President of the Trimble Athletic and Band Boosters, and a former local Girl Scout Leader.
Patty was the founder of a local friends group known as “Club,” which began in 1963 and remained an important part of her life for decades. She was actively involved in “Club” until recently. She was also a founder and actively involved with the “Coffee Girls” group, a cherished circle of friends who gather at the Home Plate Restaurant in Glouster every Monday and Friday.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Terry L. Holbert of Glouster; two sons, Greg (Jody) Holbert of Glouster and Scott (Tina) Holbert of Canal Winchester; a daughter, Tracy Holbert of Columbus; grandchildren, Terry (Tasha) Holbert, Treven (Olivia Hay) Jennice, Cayn (Erin) Jennice, Annie Holbert, Cahner (Charlie Geer) Jennice, Alysha (Nick Hammond) Holbert, and Logan (Madison) Holbert; eight great grandchildren; a sister, Donna (Garry) Duncan of The Plains; life-long friend, Jane Schoenian; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday June 25, 2025, at the Glouster Church of Christ with Greg Holbert and Terry Holbert officiating. Interment will be in the Maplewood Cemetery, Glouster. A visitation will take place at the church on Tuesday from 2–4 p.m. and 6–8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
