Pearl Scott

ATHENS- Pearl Martin Scott, age 96, of Athens, died Friday, July 4, 2025 at Rockland Ridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Belpre.  Born August 8, 1928 in Canaan Township, Athens County, he was the son of the late Edward M. Scott and Hazel P. Windland Scott.

A 1946 graduate of Rome- Canaan High School, he later received ICS classes in civil engineering.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952 in the Occupation Forces in Germany.  

Pearl was employed by the Ohio Department of Transportation from 1952 to 1985.  He recently celebrated 50 years of retirement from ODOT.  He worked for 9 years with ODOT in Athens County and transferred to the District 10 Construction Office to assist in the construction of Interstate Highway 77 through Nobel and Washington Counties.  He received exceptional reports for his supervisory duties during the construction of the Interstate Highway.

Pearl will be missed by his daughter, Kim Rea; sisters, Betty Mullins and Reba Peck; two granddaughters, Shannon (Alvin) Curran and Jessica Hayes; three great grandchildren, Julian Curran, Jalen Pickrell and Kinley Pickrell; also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins.

  Besides his parents he is preceded in death by two daughters Cheryl Scott and Kathy Hayes; three brothers, Dorrell “Sleepy” Scott, Virgil Scott and Charles “Bill” Scott; his longtime companion, Martha Crabtree; two nephews, Brad Mullins and Scott Mullins; and his Army buddy, George Shade.

The family wishes to thank Pearl’s neighbors and nieces for taking care and assisting him to stay in his home as long as possible.  Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, July 12, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens with Rev. Monte McCune officiating.  Everyone attending is asked to bring a story to share at his service. Burial will be in South Canaan Cemetery.  Friends may call Saturday from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home.  Military Rites will be conducted by K.T. Crossen Post 21 American Legion and VFW Post 9893 Honor Guards at the cemetery.  Family and friends are welcome to gather at Pearl’s house after the service.  Please share a memory, a note of condolence or sign the online register at www.jagersfuneralhome.com.
