ATHENS, Ohio — The Community Makerspace repaired 20 different items as part of Fix It Fest, organizer Ray Slater told the Independent in an email.

Last Saturday, Dec. 7, community experts gathered to repair and teach how to repair sewing machines, bikes, clothes mending, leather repair and more.

“We had a steady flow of traffic, but we weren’t overwhelmed,” Slater wrote. “It was nice for me to be able to take my time with the two mending  jobs I did, and to be able to connect with other fixers and members of the community.”

Of the 20 items repaired as part of Fix It Fest one particular item stood out to Slater, a beloved sock monkey.

“My favorite fix of the day was a 40 year old sock monkey who needed a patch on the side of its head and his ears sewn back on,” Slater wrote. “It was my first time mending a stuffed animal, and first time mending knitted material, but I and the sock monkey’s owner were very happy with how it turned out!”
