Photo Gallery: Flooding across Athens County

ATHENS, Ohio — Last weekend’s heavy rainfall caused wide-scale flooding and road closures across the county.

The Hocking River reached a crest of 20.77 feet on Sunday morning, April 6. It could have been worse: On Friday, April 4, the National Water Prediction Service projected the river would peak at 24 feet on Monday — but less rain fell than forecasted.

The Hocking’s crest was below that during historic floods in 2018 or 2005.

The rainfall also turned a slip on Joneswood Drive into a small landslide that damaged a vacant home.
