Athens seeks community members for Housing Board of Appeals

ATHENS, Ohio – The City of Athens is seeking community members interested in serving on the Housing Board of Appeals.

The Board hears appeals related to the City’s Housing Code and provides an opportunity for property owners and other affected parties to have certain housing-code decisions reviewed. This is a three-year term, however; the Board meets only on an as needed basis and historically has been called upon only occasionally, while still providing an important form of public service.

The City welcomes interest from people with a variety of backgrounds and perspectives. Experience related to housing, architecture, engineering, urban planning, law, insurance, property management, social services, or similar fields can be especially helpful. We would also particularly welcome interest from current Athens tenants, given the Board’s membership requirements.

Anyone interested in learning more or being considered for an appointment is encouraged to send a letter of interest, bio, or resume to Debra Walker, Clerk of Council, at dwalker@ci.athens.oh.us or call 740-592-3342.
