NELSONVILLE, Ohio – Hocking College President Dr. Betty Young has announced her intention to retire June 30, 2027. The Hocking College Board of Trustees has engaged ACCT to conduct a nationwide search for her successor.

Young’s announcement provides time for the Board to conduct a comprehensive search and prepare for the college’s leadership transition.

“Serving as president of Hocking College has been an extraordinary privilege,” said Young. “I am grateful to our faculty, staff, trustees, and community partners for their commitment to our students. As I prepare for retirement, I look forward to continuing our work together and helping position the college’s next president for success.”

Young’s leadership has emphasized an entrepreneurial approach to education, hands-on learning, and connections between academic preparation and the workplace. That approach reflects Hocking College’s commitment to helping students develop practical skills, pursue meaningful careers, and contribute to their communities.

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we thank Dr. Young for her dedication to Hocking College and the students and communities it serves,” said Ben Mitchell, chair of the Hocking College Board of Trustees. “Selecting the college’s next president is the Board’s most important responsibility. Our nationwide search will seek a leader who understands Hocking’s distinctive strengths and can guide the institution through the opportunities and challenges ahead.”

ACCT will assist the Board in identifying and recruiting candidates for the presidency. Additional information about the search process and opportunities for participation will be shared as details are finalized.

Under the presidential search timeline, the presidential profile will be published Nov. 19, with applications due Jan. 26, 2027. Finalists are expected to be selected the week of Feb. 15, followed by on-campus interviews March 16, 17 and 18. The Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting March 22, and the new president is scheduled to take office July 1, 2027.

“Hocking College is a place where people turn ideas into opportunities,” Young said. “I am proud of the creativity and determination of this college community, and I am excited about what its next chapter will bring.”
