ATHENS, Ohio – The City of Athens is seeking residents interested in serving on the Community Relations Commission (CRC). This volunteer commission plays an important role in promoting understanding, respect, and equal opportunity throughout the Athens community.
The Community Relations Commission works to foster harmony within the community by encouraging tolerance, goodwill, and equality of treatment and opportunity for all people, regardless of race, creed, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin or ancestry, marital or familial status, religious belief, age, or disability. The Commission also works with the City Service-Safety Director to review reports of discrimination and bias, provide education and mediation when appropriate, and connect residents with available resources.
Serving on the Community Relations Commission is an opportunity for residents to make a meaningful impact by helping strengthen inclusivity, encouraging constructive dialogue, and supporting a welcoming community for everyone.
The Commission consists of nine voting members appointed by Athens City Council and meets on the last Wednesday of each month at 2 p.m. at Athens City Hall. Commissioners serve three-year terms.
