Athens County has new electronic filing option for real property transfers

ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio – The Athens County Auditor’s Office is introducing electronic filing as a new option for real property transfer documents, marking a significant step forward in modernizing the county’s conveyance process.

Through this new option, deed conveyance documents submitted through approved eRecording vendors can be electronically routed through the county’s internal review process, including the Auditor’s Office and Tax Map Department, prior to final recording. This enhancement provides an alternative to the traditional paper-based process while maintaining all existing submission methods.

To support this initiative, Athens County has implemented DocRouter, a document routing solution provided by ePN (eRecording Partners Network). The system allows submissions from multiple eRecording vendors to be securely routed between departments, ensuring a consistent and efficient workflow regardless of the submitter’s platform.

“This is an important step forward in how we serve both the public and the professionals who work with our office,” said Athens County Auditor Jill Davidson. “By offering electronic filing as an option, we are improving efficiency and accessibility while continuing to support the methods our customers rely on.”

Previously, real property transfers required in-person or manual submission and physical routing between offices. With the addition of electronic routing, documents submitted digitally can now move through each required step of the review process more efficiently, while paper submissions will continue to be accepted and processed as usual.

Key benefits of the new electronic filing option include:

  • First-time availability of electronic filing for real property transfers in Athens County
  • Streamlined routing between the Auditor’s Office, Engineer and Recorder
  • Faster processing for electronically submitted documents
  • Improved accuracy through automated workflows
  • Increased convenience for title companies, attorneys, and other submitters

This initiative reflects the Auditor’s Office’s ongoing commitment to modernization and improved service delivery. By offering both traditional and electronic options, Athens County continues to meet the needs of its residents and business partners while enhancing internal efficiency.
