SHADE- Richard E. Tomsu, age 91, of Shade, died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023 at The Wyngate Senior Living Community, Parkersburg, WV. Son of the late Edward W. Tomsu and Katherine Sophia Reiner Tomsu, he was born Jan. 28, 1932 in Elkhart, IN.
He was an organic farmer and was a longtime member of the Athens Farmer’s Market. He taught at the University of Wyoming and Ohio University. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.
Rich is survived by two step daughters, Laura Fugate Blake and Ann Fugate Brooks; grandchildren; great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Ann Roth of Hendersonville, NC and Beverly Dezort of Athens; and a niece and a nephew.
Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Sheila “Ann” Fugate, who passed away 2020. They were together for 50 years.
